Sojourners provides fully-funded, culturally enriched, communally curated study abroad experiences that equip Black American college students to become lifelong learners and global neighbors.
Problem Solved
We remove the barriers to studying abroad while surrounding students with a lifelong fellowship rooted in Black American community, lifelong learning, global neighborliness, faith, and belonging.
Access
Study abroad can be financially and logistically out of reach.
A student may want to go, but the cost of a semester abroad, airfare, housing, food, transportation, spending money, and unexpected expenses can make it impossible.
Sojourners removes the financial barrier.
Belonging
Even when a student can study abroad, the experience may still be profoundly individual.
Especially for students whose college environment doesn't give them many opportunities to experience Black community as an ordinary, joyful, formative part of life.
Sojourners gives them a people.
Continuity
The student doesn't just go somewhere.
They enter a fellowship.
They build relationships before departure, experience the world together, are known and supported while abroad, and remain connected afterward.

The Bonding Retreat
Before the semester abroad, we become family. SOJOs, a cohort of five Sojourners going to a host city together, gather in Atlanta, Georgia, USA for a 4 day-3 night retreat to build trust, ask hard questions, and prepare their hearts to go.

We live, learn, and love in a new place. We grow in our identity, our perspective, and our purpose -- together.

The Mid-Semester Retreat
Our team flys to the SOJOs for a multi-day retreat. We reconnect our people, reflect on the semester, enjoy exclusive experiences with our partners, and delight in the goodness already around us.

The Lifelong Fellowship
The journey doesn't end when the semester does. SOJO join our alumni network, ATLAS, where they'll stay connected -- across time, land, and story -- for a lifetime.
